What is Vented Peak Metal Roof Flashing and Why Do I Need it?

Single slope roofs, also commonly referred to as shed roofs, are becoming a popular trend with modern homes. Instead of the traditional gable or hipped roofs, a shed style roof incorporates a single sloped flat roof plane. Envision a flat roof pulled upward on one end to shed water. These single slope roofs allow for simple roof construction. Some home designs even utilize multiple shed roof planes to create a more distinctive look. Even with their modern looks, the simple functionality of the shed style roof design has been used throughout history.
With most roof types, attic ventilation is key to a successful design. Proper attic ventilation accommodates airflow to assist in removing excess heat and moisture from attic spaces. Based on ASC’s similarly effective ridge venting solution, this system avoids the use of secondary roof surface venting products, which penetrate the roof plane and create unnecessary penetrations into the metal roofing; products like box vents, louver vents, and turbine vents. These alternate solutions penetrate the roof surface and increase the risk of water intrusion or potentially restricting the movement of ice and snow, as they are located on the plane of the roof. The new vented peak detail and flashing results in a cleaner roofline without the clutter that obtrusive roof vents traditionally offer.
